Who is Torrence Nelson?
Torrence Nelson was born and raised in Chicago. He grew up attending both a Catholic and Baptist church in which his love for traditional christian music and gospel music were birthed. Torrence accepted christ at the age of 9 years old. It was then when he really started to build a relationship with Christ. Shortly thereafter, he realized that it was his calling and purpose to lead, minister, and change lives through the gift of music.
In an effort to become a master of his craft, Torrence became a vocal music major at Lincoln Park H.S. in Chicago. As a result, he was afforded the opportunity to perform in professional Opera’s and Musicals. While attending he served as the Gospel Choir Director for 3 years. After graduating, he was attended Berklee College of Music in Boston. He received a B.A. in Professional Music w/a focus in Music education in 2012. During this time, He was given the opportunity to travel to Europe and Asia to spread the Gospel with the Harlem Gospel Choir. He’s had countless opportunities to backup some of his most influential gospel artist including Tye Tribbett, Donnie McClurkin, J.J. Hairston, Myron Butler, Jonathan Nelson, and Richard Smallwood.
After graduating, Torrence released his debut album “A Heart Of Praise”. Which was nominated and won an Angelic Award for album of the Year 14’. The album is a full circle gospel album consisting of contemporary praise and worship tunes, traditional ballads, and choir songs. This album was co-produced by Clifton Williams. The amazing writers include Jonathan Hoard, Rashad McPherson, Michael Bradley, Clifton Williams, and Jonathan Lotson.
Torrence is currently a worship leader at Bethel A.M.E. Church located in Boston, Massachusetts. He’s under the leadership of the dynamic duo Pastor Ray and Gloria White-Hammond. He serves one of the Music Directors for the Harlem Gospel Choir and an educator for Boston Public Schools.
Torrence’s ultimate goal as a worshipper, worship leader and gospel artist is to create an environment conducive to an authentic encounter with Christ. As a result, it will cause lives to be changed, people to be encouraged and uplifted, healing and deliverance to take place, and most importantly for souls to be saved.
